<h2>Station History &amp; Background</h2>
<p>Trace FM Kenya was established in November 2019 following the acquisition of a 70% stake in Qwetu Radio by Trace, a global urban music television and entertainment network. The deal, which commenced with talks in September 2018, gave Trace a foothold in the highly competitive urban radio entertainment segment in Kenya. Following the acquisition, Trace set up its East African hub in Westlands, Nairobi, led by Danny Mucira as the Managing Director for the East Africa cluster, who previously worked at Radio Africa which dominates a large share of the urban radio entertainment segment in Kenya.</p>
<p>At its launch, Trace FM Kenya inherited approximately 4% market share in the urban music and entertainment category in Kenya from Qwetu Radio. The station's vision was to become the music radio market leader in Kenya by 2022. It joined other Trace products in the region, including Trace Mziki, which was already available in the East African region and controlled about 66% of the market in the Kenya music TV category. The station has established itself as a dedicated platform for afro-urban content, focusing on entertainment, empowerment, and music including Hip Hop, Brazilian, African, Urban and Caribbean genres. As part of the larger Trace brand, Trace FM Kenya contributes to the promotion of African and Afro-inspired music and culture across the continent.</p>
