About Radio 47
Radio 47 is Kenya's first fully audio-visual, IP-based urban African Swahili radio station — and one of the country's most talked-about media success stories. Launched on 13 March 2023 by Cape Media Limited, the company behind TV47 and an affiliate of Mount Kenya University founded by entrepreneur and educationist Prof. Simon Gicharu, the station was built from the ground up with modern, internet-first broadcasting technology.
Its rise has been remarkable. Within months of going on air, Radio 47 picked up a Kuza Broadcasting Award from the Communications Authority of Kenya, and in under two years it had broken into the league of Kenya's "Big Five" radio stations.
