About Ghetto Radio

Ghetto Radio is a Nairobi-based youth station and Kenya's self-styled "No.1 Ghetto Radio" — broadcasting almost entirely in Sheng, the vibrant blend of Swahili, English and street slang that is the everyday language of urban Kenyan youth. First on air in 2007, the station was built around a bold idea: to reveal the fuller picture of urban African life and give the people of Nairobi's estates and informal settlements a channel to tell their own stories through music, news, comment, poetry and culture.

That mission shaped a station unlike any other on the dial. Ghetto Radio offers "street credible" news, views and entertainment made by people from the urban ghetto, for an audience inside and beyond it — covering local and international news, sports, lifestyle and music with an insider's eye for the energy, humour and ingenuity of street life. Its 24/7 schedule and visual-radio broadcasts have made it a cultural force among listeners aged roughly 15 to 25.

Crucially, Ghetto Radio has been a launchpad for talent. Several of Kenya's biggest radio personalities cut their teeth here before going on to national fame — a testament to the station's role as an incubator for raw, authentic urban voices. Through Radio.co.ke you can stream that same energy live, wherever you are.
