About AWR Africa ECD

Adventist World Radio was established in 1971 as the official international broadcasting arm of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, and is headquartered in Silver Spring, Maryland, USA. Its purpose is to carry the Adventist message of hope in Christ to unreached people groups worldwide — including places where open evangelism is restricted or difficult — using shortwave, AM/FM, satellite and web broadcasts in listeners' own languages.

AWR's presence in East Africa dates back to 1984, when it began broadcasting from Nairobi, Kenya — one of the network's earliest African outposts, and the base from which AWR later helped establish sister operations elsewhere in the region, including a Tanzanian branch in Morogoro. Nairobi remains the hub for AWR's work across the East-Central Africa Division (ECD), the Seventh-day Adventist Church's administrative region covering 11 countries across East and Central Africa, home to more than 2.5 million Adventist church members worshipping in over 11,000 churches.

Rather than a music-led format, AWR Africa ECD carries spoken-word Christian programming — Bible teaching and devotional content — aimed at reaching listeners in their own languages across the division's territory, from Kenya and Uganda to Rwanda, Burundi, Tanzania and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
